I used some of the super fun scrapbook paper that Carrie Huisenga gave me for Christmas to make a Valentine's Day banner. Not much to update you on though. Snow peas are coming in and taste delicious! The bush beans finally started to blossom and we should have some to eat soon enough. The broccoli is also doing well; even the plants that I transplanted have broccoli growing on them! I think I am the most excited about that.<br />

I haven't killed ANYTHING yet!<br />
<br />
Starting at the furthest west corner:<br />
<br />
BROCCOLI: This has literally exploded. I don't think I can keep it all in this small 2'z2' box. Anyone want a broccoli plant? I am not sure how they would transplant at this point but hey, it is worth a shot! (UPDATE 7/7: I transplanted about 7 of the plants...they aren't dead yet but they don't look as healthy as they were. They are all floppy now)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOjQd41Sk0Pgwdgp6s94A6sdY8KYaaY-0e6y7pkokRfFNeN3KOTIyyEJS3Hiyo155t2_ZOZ-rszFDXmfdRBrotDoDASThpOiMAlNkZBp5Kdcnb7RVl0JNcN0mgrgoXTY2Lb0JGxBSNfx8/s1600/IMG_6774.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOjQd41Sk0Pgwdgp6s94A6sdY8KYaaY-0e6y7pkokRfFNeN3KOTIyyEJS3Hiyo155t2_ZOZ-rszFDXmfdRBrotDoDASThpOiMAlNkZBp5Kdcnb7RVl0JNcN0mgrgoXTY2Lb0JGxBSNfx8/s320/IMG_6774.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
<br />
CUCUMBERS: These are still rather small and they don't appear to be changing much so I am not sure if we will get much out of them...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcpKGXakFKj1DSKTOST-3WmvPxnyD-Yi6jzGht4JTa3-o8NTqoJ-F10Z_eXqnB3LwK9GpHFmlRQaoMOalCo1e-mj56TPqYWM6vvgj3ppB9SvB9Q09GoVux2wuqTedqEP4oozJvDp_2oB8/s1600/IMG_6775.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcpKGXakFKj1DSKTOST-3WmvPxnyD-Yi6jzGht4JTa3-o8NTqoJ-F10Z_eXqnB3LwK9GpHFmlRQaoMOalCo1e-mj56TPqYWM6vvgj3ppB9SvB9Q09GoVux2wuqTedqEP4oozJvDp_2oB8/s320/IMG_6775.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
<br />
BEANS: These started out very shaky and have finally started to grow. They are also a bit tight for space but I think that these are also too late to transplant. Over the weekend while we were in Oregon for the fourth of July they started to sprout little wispy things on the top!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeN5sbzZ5kI4Oatrj7P6GI3ecC3VBfAYoSNbhWGKJOw-xKvnlPUn4RD4YvtcrgyPghlrS-1iUoVeCEzVuPsBJa5yn1I5kvbx5lwed3vKNmjFEYdbXN5R_On-1pOa-XZTuMUsfkTopiEpw/s1600/IMG_6776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeN5sbzZ5kI4Oatrj7P6GI3ecC3VBfAYoSNbhWGKJOw-xKvnlPUn4RD4YvtcrgyPghlrS-1iUoVeCEzVuPsBJa5yn1I5kvbx5lwed3vKNmjFEYdbXN5R_On-1pOa-XZTuMUsfkTopiEpw/s320/IMG_6776.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

SNOW PEAS: I have a 2'x4' box and a 2'x2' box going. The bigger box is pictured here and is doing very well. We went to buy stakes to drill into the sides of the boxes last week since the peas outgrew the little stick and string set up we had put together. The best part is all the little blossoms appearing! They are gorgeous and promise lots of peas! This big box was planted from indoor starter plants and I am shocked at how well they have done after being transplanted twice. The small box plants were all directly planted as seeds outside and but they aren't far behind the bigger box.<br />

<br />
SCALLIONS: These are doing 'okay'. I remember thinking last year that I really wished they got bigger. Some of them still seem tiny. Despite this, we used some in our salsa last week and they were delicious!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgukQgwx2tHsdMPAbUN8opG_B3kl14_kh5or63-NIoM_ixAvKibvrd4l-SQ5qwAcDM37wN2_xNuEsWDhbFeRkAIbNppnGHY9ZC16g5zqhzXno5yQ48urxT_D40qovPxJDhm1ZG9LFUjVxw/s1600/IMG_6780.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgukQgwx2tHsdMPAbUN8opG_B3kl14_kh5or63-NIoM_ixAvKibvrd4l-SQ5qwAcDM37wN2_xNuEsWDhbFeRkAIbNppnGHY9ZC16g5zqhzXno5yQ48urxT_D40qovPxJDhm1ZG9LFUjVxw/s320/IMG_6780.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
<br />
WALLA WALLS: These are still so tiny! I might have done something wrong. I thinned them about 3 weeks ago and they haven't changed since... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRSxorNaJTWZ78iX_NtpmOYQvGHg4SOw7nj0rI9BvQFrSthTLp_iM87psh6JoA5wbhXD_LwVd6PIPob8Ew2FkDBM58Y4kprcur2i0arYXVlwGza21OelWHXo69TyI24MZdM8DsKxOmTl0/s1600/IMG_6781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRSxorNaJTWZ78iX_NtpmOYQvGHg4SOw7nj0rI9BvQFrSthTLp_iM87psh6JoA5wbhXD_LwVd6PIPob8Ew2FkDBM58Y4kprcur2i0arYXVlwGza21OelWHXo69TyI24MZdM8DsKxOmTl0/s320/IMG_6781.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
MIXED LETTUCE GREENS: These are literally taking over my garden. I can't believe how successful the lettuce has been. It is very strong and tastes delicious. If anyone wants some lettuce let me know and I will bring you some! You can also see my lavender plant in the middle of the far box which is doing equally well. I don't know when to harvest though, perhaps after the little blossoms die? It smells so good!<br />

STRAWBERRIES: These have also been great! We have over a dozen little strawberries growing and one red one so far!<br />

CORN: Someone told me last week, "So much for knee high by the fourth of July"...dang cold weather we have been having...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTjxqdPfQez-0rHWP0-yaTa08O3R7yTg4nZ3R_p8nfKtaKcNY-9abdcVamhMWYiNCRicwb43yvYYpKi_hNs4lG_2bYZ1OooYpJhNdCfoe4z_nR8RCquC-nnkNeqVpLeOwB1LYHIn2jV8Q/s1600/IMG_6788.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTjxqdPfQez-0rHWP0-yaTa08O3R7yTg4nZ3R_p8nfKtaKcNY-9abdcVamhMWYiNCRicwb43yvYYpKi_hNs4lG_2bYZ1OooYpJhNdCfoe4z_nR8RCquC-nnkNeqVpLeOwB1LYHIn2jV8Q/s320/IMG_6788.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
<br />
Carrots: I thinned the box on the left (top) about 1 month ago. The ones I thinned are not doing as well as the plants that I left alone. Too bad because they will have more space to grow delicious carrots! The right side(bottom) is growing very great but I am not sure how big the carrots will get since they don't have much space.<br />

TOMATOES: Meh.... a few blossoms but nothing exciting. Did I mention how wet and cold it has been this summer?<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Two weekends ago Chris and I wandered around the Mukilteo garage sale and I found a really cool chair for $2! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZFOLBv77xFHcR0SECOzR6IyZ2ETbzhuEkXJ7P7zUNE4e08KcL9dSoSxWQ6lsBv58oft6-T0AIMASI-j3wWcZgU0OnuUt6x5oBUNa4vWWOsTNc1_h1ObwTJYVCJpsPXl-rBUMAOtgnA_U/s1600/IMG_3761.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZFOLBv77xFHcR0SECOzR6IyZ2ETbzhuEkXJ7P7zUNE4e08KcL9dSoSxWQ6lsBv58oft6-T0AIMASI-j3wWcZgU0OnuUt6x5oBUNa4vWWOsTNc1_h1ObwTJYVCJpsPXl-rBUMAOtgnA_U/s320/IMG_3761.JPG" width="213" /></a> </div><div style="text-align: center;">As you can see, it started out with this kind of faded old blue and white fabric on it. </a></div><div style="text-align: center;">The hardest part was picking out the fabric but I am VERY happy with my choice. I told Kelsie that I was only allowed 5 minutes from the time we walked into the fabric store until I had decided on the fabric. This one fit so perfectly with what I was thinking of in my head that I think I took less than my allotted 5 minutes! This fabric was the most expensive part of the project since I shelled out $8 for 1 yard of this gorgeous stuff!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

We have some awesome friends staying with us this week (Amanda and Brandon Bates with their two super cute daughters Lilly and Mya) so last weekend Chris and Brandon spent a few hours picking out wood while I worked to even out the dirt where we had some bush stumps ground out. The assembly process was pretty quick and then we had to fill all three boxes with dirt. We bought 5,000 lbs of top soil that has lots of compost and good stuff to grow in. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">The end product was pretty cool and the whole thing was rather easy. Chris picked out 16' long 2"x12" boards and we had them cut to make 3 raised garden beds that are 4'x8'. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br />

Jake and I discovered it yesterday. I bought a ball of rough or unspun wool and a Drop Spindle (quite cheap: 2 oz of wool was roughly $4 and the drop spindle was $9). </div><br /><div align="center"></div><br /><div align="center"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 269px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 206px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596756433723777602" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJjKps3OxOLW85_lCNih9rL9PmLdH03Z_oPjrn1UEZYbedLqDsKhUWwVRzX1WR6a3gXAz7KrMozSkae7fTU_byqpfjLZCWfr__ix0DdoSm42egGZ33o2wrghxfCe7DHmI_IChdIPelU1yR/s320/005.JPG" /></div><br /><p align="center">I watched a really quick youtube video on how to spin with a drop spindle, but I really didn't quite understand what I was doing after that. I basically just "winged-it" until I ran out of wool. I am pretty sure I was spinning too tightly, since the yarn was twisting up too much. There were parts where the yarn was thicker/chunkier, and others where it was too thin (almost sock-weight). I figured that that would be normal for the first try? At least for someone who really didnt know what she was doing.</p><br /><p align="center"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 192px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 167px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596759196644341858" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8JIKvtDzQEyaZx6z2a4dDUwRSnMR655QDVLw_CFfydM8EEf0hzztfk3Rp3IrD4l5xL_lolyLmhGV0-vNJC5i4zyIHRCDPh3iI1LscTYoThLqBg9HPEmsvgSUaKQKIWo2-fgq0lJKyjRYp/s320/007.JPG" />So here is what the yarn looks like all wrapped up on the drop spindle. I unravelled it and wrapped it over the end of my coffee table, and then tied strings on each end of the giant loop-thingy I made. The next picture shows the two pots on the stove where I boiled the onion peels to create a dye. I ended up watering the dye down in the end, and I think it might have ruined the strength of the color. I added lavender essential oil to the brews so that they didn't smell too oniony. You can see the yarn in the tin baking tray, ready to be soaked with dye.</p><br /><p align="center"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 305px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596762992194264290" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEismrvImRxBbM03yIITlCYxenrxJ5uUuA6szDx0clOv4w_L-YVEgt056P2mVY-Pa84sxuYwXx9J03gFOQVQzvXt08VACD_okft5p_PMQTSYTCfZlAXszqOsy5XK1dUKDlHxvShUzlRIgT1a/s320/Knitting%252C+Spinning%252C+Dying+020.JPG" /> Here is what my lovely yarn looked like after being dyed:</p><br /><p align="center"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 211px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 168px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596764728344680514" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqs5SeR48DRkKMt5MqAUR_5KnzE8b2sfMG-nfUQquc-sPLRoJcrcS9YDYMWMivLTMw4O4TXotCSTbIbkEDYdJqR2i22s-isCsMIMxGsXewm0s6egj75LfuX5IA-v_rKqukXxU7UmtWtW9q/s320/Knitting%252C+Spinning%252C+Dying+025.JPG" /> </p><br /><p align="center"></p><br /><div></div><br /><p align="center"></p>Casie Dhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04821718830967372222noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7298202314170336062.post-3866799798390666762011-04-16T15:51:00.000-07:002011-04-16T16:30:48.455-07:00Dark Chocolate Black Cherry Scones<div align="center"><em>Dark Chocolate Black Cherry Scones </em></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596327014085445378" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg93GjyMOPwpeToVi82eiEIMmNt-QBYpUFelnRmqxA3u_I-NcEUnu_jZMToV_WqrXxR8I1YJr7nsHJgtcobmwfGc2v6aQIJ7zKWirjZMjBxQOoerUOZ-0SroxFN0Ae5ku9w2Oizbxt4KKkK/s320/dark+chocolate+black+cherry+scones+017.JPG" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6NQCpQnpHuL0zX8PIMIuFIVoPgja8KCi1vpfTf9u-sftk4Ihkt9j2NgBYRopdclbKRLMB1Ht738tWzgs7pCwPkreVFh80QSTjWMBgdDcqyR8Kw2pVkYkLdpeQ_n_70e3wdoLkQ7xjmFEU/s1600/dark+chocolate+black+cherry+scones+010.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596326105057419794" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6NQCpQnpHuL0zX8PIMIuFIVoPgja8KCi1vpfTf9u-sftk4Ihkt9j2NgBYRopdclbKRLMB1Ht738tWzgs7pCwPkreVFh80QSTjWMBgdDcqyR8Kw2pVkYkLdpeQ_n_70e3wdoLkQ7xjmFEU/s320/dark+chocolate+black+cherry+scones+010.JPG" /></a> <br /><div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div align="center">I felt like taking a break from philosophy and being one with my domestic side for a change today. For example when I make dinner I usually ask him, “Hey, did you like it?” and he almost always says “yes.” However, I have discovered that when I try to make the same recipe again, he will sometimes say, “Oh, you are making that again?” with a squishy-faced expression. I don’t know if this is normal with most guys, but Chris ‘likes’ almost everything, meaning he will eat anything. There are some things he REALLY likes. So now, instead of<span> </span>just asking Chris whether or not he ‘likes’ it, I ask him if he would want me to make it again! Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the quinoa is tender, and the water has been absorbed, about 15 to 20 minutes (it is pretty similar to rice). Sauté the onions over medium high heat in the olive oil. Add a dash of cayenne pepper & chili powder. When onions are translucent add the garlic cloves. Sauté until you smell the garlic! Rub the paste over the top of the meatloaf. (I actually forgot to put the sauce on top of the loaf before I cooked it. I poured the sauce on top after it was cooked and then let it sit at 200 degrees F for about 20 minutes and then broiled it.)</span></span></span></li>

They recently moved to Clatskanie (clat-scan-eye), OR from San Diego after a short stint in Idaho. Josh is one of the <b>5</b> police officers in this teeny tiny town of 1,700 people!! Melissa drove me around the whole town this morning and I saw where all <b>5</b> of the police officers live, city hall, <b>the</b> grocery store, <b>the</b> post office, <b>the</b> restaurant, <b>the</b> coffee shop…all in about 5 minutes. Chris and I both love Oregon so it is fun to visit them in this little town with their cute little house and beautiful view of the hills.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"> Since I was coming down to visit the Lineberry’s in their house, I was thinking that we would get them a house warming present. Then I decided that Melissa would be the primary recipient of a housewarming gift anyways (since boys don’t really like house stuff) and that I would much rather KNIT her a present instead! I started with what is currently my favorite yarn… Malabrigo’s Rasta yarn, which I have already used in three other similar projects. This yarn is really chunky and requires pretty big needles, making for quick projects! Since Melissa’s favorite color was purple in high school, I chose an earthy, purple/green blend called Zarzamora. I love the Malabrigo yarn because it is kettle dyed so every skein is unique. While at my favorite yarn store (Great Yarns, in Everett) I also picked up some super cute wood buttons!</div><div class="MsoNormal">This is the pattern for the cowl, be warned…it is my first time writing out a pattern:</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

<i>I sliced up carrots lengthwise in varying shapes and and threw them into a saute pan</i> <i>with a little bit of olive oil. (I actually used too much and recommend only using about</i><i> 1 Tbl or less of olive oil depending on the amount of carrots you are making). The goal</i><i> is to caramelize them but you have to be careful because they might start to smoke up</i><i> your house! Watch them closely and stir them up every 30 seconds or so until they are</i> <i>softened and really sweet. Take them off the heat and add about 1/4 cup of crumbled feta</i><i> cheese. Allow the feta to get soft (it's ok to let them brown then it is even better!). Serve</i><i> while warm!</i></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><i><br />

</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"> First of all I need you to know one key thing: I LOVE garlic, onions, and feta. So those will always be some of my frequent ingredients!<br />
<br />
Carrots with feta are like candy! Also, I think that the best flavor to pair with green vegetables is often lemon because it can take the place of salt and pairs with veggies really well. I used to hate vegetables...in fact, while I was in Spain in 2007 my Skype status said "Not eating vegetables!" and I am pretty sure it still says that. HOWEVER, now that I have 'grown up' a bit (and married a veggie lover) I am finding that I really enjoy some veggies such as fresh carrots, beans, asparagus, broccoli, corn, sweet potatoes/yams, cauliflower, and some others. It is such a shocking transition...right Mom?! In fact I liked them so much that I was too much in a rush to eat them so I forgot to take a picture first!<br />
<br />
As far as knitting goes, I just finished a project for someone and I will put some pictures of that up once I have delivered the gift! I am also working on a headband right now and hope to have pictures up soon!<br />
<br />
Gardening/growing... it has been a very exciting series of 3 days watering because the sprouts started to grow some green stuff and become visible! 3 out of 20 look like this:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYGzIWqVaN12Z7bejLPc6cwukfQF8xIBsDZL46ZNt1KpXBtZfZnNeh93DG2Z-wTLYwhH31hnA33vbSl-nRAsUSGN4aw2OM1zvx7hzJubNsDmSCbumo5GVmIlMvEMkjRb5K-_2rGMsoSws/s1600/IMG_6236.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYGzIWqVaN12Z7bejLPc6cwukfQF8xIBsDZL46ZNt1KpXBtZfZnNeh93DG2Z-wTLYwhH31hnA33vbSl-nRAsUSGN4aw2OM1zvx7hzJubNsDmSCbumo5GVmIlMvEMkjRb5K-_2rGMsoSws/s320/IMG_6236.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div><div style="text-align: left;"> Also, thank goodness that the gatos have been prevented from attacking the little cups off the window sill by a strip of plastic wrap run from one end to the other. The purpose is two fold, 1-keep the cats away, 2-try to create a "green house" like environment for the little sunlight we will get here each day. We pull some more tomato seeds out from the paper towel bags and they look like this:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQf2Q4pdj_Hu8_XU0FBPd-VpzZItCiiobOV85mVdSKluls4itjz_VGTHknN3aXflhkoEvrSHHnARyavUBsDusLsf8yWtGS6i8tKAdnCRQZkBZssQcWYtlJalOnf3D6ERVSNmze_2cSIuQ/s1600/IMG_6239.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQf2Q4pdj_Hu8_XU0FBPd-VpzZItCiiobOV85mVdSKluls4itjz_VGTHknN3aXflhkoEvrSHHnARyavUBsDusLsf8yWtGS6i8tKAdnCRQZkBZssQcWYtlJalOnf3D6ERVSNmze_2cSIuQ/s320/IMG_6239.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
I completely forgot about growing garlic by the way! <br />
The last few weeks I have wanted to start blogging. I know it is silly and no one may wind up reading it, but it will be cool to track some things, (like what I have knit, what I have been cooking, and what we are trying to grow!).<br />
So let's start of with growing! Chris and I started growing our second garden last weekend. Last year we had a tiny 4'x5' patch cleared in our new back yard. Sadly it was a bit unsuccessful as we only really got the onions and 1 cucumber out of it. This year we are following the advice of the guys at the farmers' market and starting things out inside.<br />
<br />
Last weekend we put some peas, beans, corn, and tomatoes between moist paper towels in ziplocs and put them on top of the fridge (out of the sight of our tricky cats!). <br />

So we filled up lots of little dixie cups with some of our own compost and topsoil and added the sprouted seeds. Last year we were told this will help them start out well... <br />

One main problem remains. So far we are planting bush beans, shell peas, tomatoes, carrots, onions, corn. Our little 4'x5' garden will not be big enough for all of it. This is a picture of our backyard right now. As you can see, Chris is cutting down all of the big bushes on the right side of the fence. Next weekend we are going to build some nice raised garden boxes!! <br />

To be honest, we have no clue what we are doing :) Still, it will be fun if we get something out of it!Brookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12036597961424405197noreply@blogger.com4
